Understanding the Impact of School Libraries

The goals of this national summit are to:

• Explore the multiple perspectives of evidence-based practice
• Investigate examples of evidence-based practice in school libraries
• Develop guidelines to help lead evidence-based practice in school libraries

Topics will include exploration of evidence-based practice in three areas:

• reading and literacy
• knowledge construction and the curriculum
• 21st century skills

A key aspect to this summit is to explore evidence-based practice on the district- and state-level, and case studies will be presented.

Highlights from the 2006 SLJ Leadership Summit

The purpose of this summit was to develop a white paper that outlines the dynamic roles of the school library media specialist in supporting and enabling learning in the 21st century. Participants explored the rapid changes occurring in education; the impact of these changes on learners and educators in the 21st century; and the changing role of the school media specialist in this new landscape.
